Government of British Columbia
Pharmaceutical brand-owners requested that the province
expand the scope of the Post-Consumer
Residual Stewardship Program Regulation (BC Reg.111/97)
to include pharmaceutical products in order to ensure
a level playing field for all producers through universal
participation in the program. The regulation, passed on
March 27, 1997, required all brand-owners of pharmaceutical
products sold in B.C. to take cradle-to-cradle responsibility
for the safe management of their products.
Recycle Québec
Establised in 1990, the Société québécoise de récupération et de recyclage (RECYC-QUÉBEC) is a government corporation established to promote, develop and support the reduction, the re-employment, recovery and recycling of containers, packing, matters or products, and protection of our resources.
The corporation belongs to the Minister for the Environment; a board of directors composed of no more then eleven members manages its affairs.
Waste Diversion Ontario
(WDO) is a permanent, non-share non-government corporation created under the Waste Diversion Act on June 27, 2002. WDO was established to develop, implement and operate waste diversion programs for a wide range of materials that include Blue Box Waste, Used Tires, Used Oil Material, Household Special Waste, Electronic Waste, Organic Materials, Pharmaceuticals and Fluorescent Tubes. Waste diversion programs will be developed after materials are designated by the Minister of the Environment.
WDO has been authorized by the Act to work co-operatively with those industries that produce and distribute these products to establish programs to divert waste materials.
