The Post Consumer Pharmaceutical Stewardship Association (PCPSA) was formed to respond to government and environmental issues relating to the efficient collection and safe disposal of leftover medicines returned by the public in provinces having regulations requiring industry stewardship programs. Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association (CGPA), Canada’s Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx&D) and NDMAC-Advancing Canadian self-care representing the majority of the pharmaceuticals and self-care health products, cooperated in the formation of the association to address post-consumer stewardship. PCPSA was federally registered on December 31, 1999.
